Hello :)

I know it’s been a while since I posted here, I apologize for that.  Been a bit busy… but I hope you all are doing well??

I suppose I just wanted to write a quick post to see how you all are doing.  And to further remind you to keep living your dreams.  I think we as people constantly forget how short life really is.  Before we know it, twenty years will have passed and we’ll still be waiting for our life to start.  Which is why I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to get out there and do what you love.  Life is short.  But it’s never too late to do what you truly want in this life.

I know it can be terrifying (believe me I do), but don’t you want to look back at your life and say, “wow, I did that.  I did what I truly loved to do.”??  Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, but if you want it bad enough and are willing to put in the work, you will succeed.

I just like to remind you all every once in a while ;).

Hope you have such a great week, and really do get out there and do something that makes you happy.  You deserve it. 🙂

The Perfect Heist Film: My Eleven Favorite Heist Films

Since I am making a film about a jewel heist, I thought it might be a fun idea to mention my favorite heist films to you all :).  And please do feel free to let me know what your favorites are!!  🙂

1. RIFIFI

Such a beautiful film.  The robbery with no dialogue is brilliant!  It really is such a fantastic movie.  The characters really draw you in right from the start.  That is something I always look for in a film.  And the scene where they are all trying to figure out the alarm system is so full of tension.  It’s such a great film!  I could probably praise it for the next hour, but I’ll spare you ;).

2. HEAT

What a great film.  I love this movie.  And I have to admit, the scene where Robert De Niro is across from Al Pacino in the diner gives me chills every single time I watch it.  This film is legendary.  And again, what a great group of characters.

3. OCEAN’S ELEVEN

This movie is just so much fun.  Whenever I want to be purely entertained, I put on this film.  George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle… these guys are just so cool.  This is what cool is.  I love it.  My favorite line is always when they all show up at Reuben’s house, and he says, “What?  Did you all get a group rate or something?”  Haha – epic.  Gosh it’s fun… and now I kind of want to watch it ;)… and I must admit, I really loved the second one too.  I mean a heist set in Italy?!  Now there’s something I can relate to ;).

4.  RESERVOIR DOGS

Of course I’m going to have a Tarantino film on here ;).  I love Tarantino.  And I happen to absolutely love Reservoir Dogs.  The tension that builds up between these guys is just so great.  I wanted to use a lot of those conversation styles in my own film.  We are all walking storytellers.  Tarantino has this brilliant way of letting his characters tell life stories throughout his films.  Like why do they call a Quarter Pounder a Royale With Cheese in Amsterdam? (To quote Pulp Fiction) ;).  I am also a huge fan of when Michael Madsen cuts off Mr. Security Guard’s ear.  He’s just so freakin’ cool!  Yeah, you can’t have a heist film without the coolness ;).

5.  SNATCH

I love, love, love this film.  The way all these characters fit together is so bloody brilliant!  And I am a huge fan of humor.  This film gets all of that.  I watch this film all the time.  And again, what a cool movie.  The scene where Brad Pitt is fighting towards the end and then when he gets hit, instead of falling to the floor, he falls into the water has always been a striking image I keep in the back of my head.  Such a visually magnificent shot.

6.  THE BANK JOB

Again, this is a film that is just so much fun to watch.  Jason Statham is brilliant at being that cool English criminal we all like to love.  It’s just a really fun movie.  It frequents my DVD player quite a bit ;).

7.  THE USUAL SUSPECTS

I feel like this film really got the whole ‘twist’ right.  If you have not seen the movie, I won’t ruin it, but for those who have, how many of you actually saw that ending coming?!  So brilliant!  Good ol’ Keyser Söze ;).

8.  INCEPTION

This film is such a beautiful spectacle for the eyes.  It’s so full of gorgeous shots.  The way it plays with your mind is brilliant.  And the end of this film is so hauntingly breathtaking.  True it’s not a traditional heist film, but the essence of what a heist is all about is most definitely there.  Christopher Nolan is a genius.  I have been a fan of his ever since the great Memento.

9.  DOG DAY AFTERNOON

This film is great.  I mean young Al Pacino could hardly ever do any wrong.  I love the way he draws us in right from the start.  And I love rooting for the criminal (well, I mean as long as they deserve it) ;).  I actually haven’t seen this in a while, I should watch it again.

10.  BOTTLE ROCKET

This was where I first fell in love with Wes Anderson.  What a terrific director he is!  And the end heist is just hilarious!  I love the actor who asks who Apple Jack is.  I love how confused he is. 😉  And when the guys come back and none of them are wearing masks, but then Owen Wilson tells them to put on their masks after the fact, is pure comedy. 🙂  Such a fun film.  Which also proves just how entertaining movies can be on very small budgets.

11.  RONIN

Ronin is one of those movies that just kind of gets under my skin.  I love the whole European feel to it.  There’s this essence of coolness to this movie that I just love.  It’s like…I really want to be friends with Robert De Niro and Jean Reno.  It’s a beautiful film that I love getting swept away in. … Plus I LOVE the car chase!  ;D

And those are my eleven favorite heist films :).

Nine Days and Counting…

Hello my great friends!

We have 9 days left on the kickstarter campaign for my film The Scapegoat.  Now is the time to consider pledging if you were thinking about doing so earlier, but just wanted to wait until the end ;).  Every little bit really does help.  Even $1.

Maybe you could even forgo the coffee you were going to buy for one day to help a young filmmaker with her dreams of making movies?? 🙂

I know most of you don’t personally know me, but I am one to deliver what I set out to do.  I want to create stories for all of you to hopefully enjoy.  That is what I am, a storyteller :).

But I do know that times are difficult right now (I mean even for me, otherwise I’d fund my film myself) ;).  Even just sharing the word with friends really does help a lot.  You never know which of your great friends will be able to give up $5 to help a movie get made.  😉

I also believe that films are costing way too much to make nowadays.  I mean $300 million for a feature?  Sure that would be nice, but I do not think it is necessary.  I’m hoping to be able to make films for much cheaper, so that everyone can see a good profit (nothing substantial, but hopefully enough to be put back into another film). Reservoir Dogs was made for roughly $25,000 and look how great that film is!  🙂

So yes.  I am only asking for $10,000.  And we are almost halfway there :).  I know that with your help we can and will succeed :).  Anything is possible when we really want something badly enough.  I really believe this to be true.  For all of us.   If there’s something you really want, go out there and ask for it.  You never know, maybe someone will say yes :).

An Update On Our Location Scouting

Hello my lovely friends!

I just wanted to give a quick update on how are location scouting is going.  So far it’s going really well!  🙂  I contacted a few places, and already they are more than happy to have us film there this summer!  Yay!  I am so excited.  And now I feel like this film really is going to happen :).

Though I could still use your help.  We are just over $4000 and still have a little ways to go.  If you can, please help by spreading the word on this film.  Maybe a friend or two of yours could forgo a coffee for the day and instead help our film?  I really appreciate it so incredibly much.  You all are amazing, and I’m so lucky to know you all!

Staying up all night to help raise funding

Hello my lovely friends!

How are you all?  Doing amazingly well I hope :).

Last night I decided to stay up all night in hopes of raising our pledges.  And you know what?  Thanks to you brilliant friends, we raised $310!!  How great is that?!  Our total now for The Scapegoat is at $3,769.  We are so close to $4,000! 🙂

Besides thanking you, I am also here to ask you for any help that you can offer.  I will be continuing my all day tweetathon on Twitter in hopes of raising our $4,000 (or more) today :).  If you could give up buying one coffee for the day it would really help my dream of making this film.  Though I understand if money is tight.  Even spreading the word to your friends is a huge help!  I appreciate it all.

Everything we do towards our dreams is a huge step forward

Hello my lovely friends!

How are you all?  I feel like I haven’t been able to post recently as much as I would like, which is sad.  But between networking, my day job, and pre-production for The Scapegoat, there just isn’t enough hours in the day ;).

I hope you all are doing amazingly well though.  And I hope you all are doing at least one thing that is bringing you closer to your own dreams :).  Life is short.  Which is why I cannot urge you all enough to get out there and follow your dreams.  I know it can be scary, but there are many of us out there that want to see you succeed!  There is enough room in this world for us all to make it :).

That really has been one of the greatest things about this kickstarter campaigning.  I’ve met so many talented people.  And I wish I had more to give them for their own projects!  But, I do know that every little bit helps.

I personally have had people tell me that I won’t make it, but you know what?  This just helps us to fight harder.  And again, deep down they are just sad that they are not living out their own dreams.  I mean have you ever heard of a great, successful person telling you that you won’t make it?  Of course not.  They want you to succeed too :).  And true we may come up against obstacles that seem like small failures.  But we can learn from these.  Everything we do towards our dreams is a huge step forward :).

The Scapegoat is 31% Funded!

Hello my fantastic readers!  🙂

I have to thank you all so much for all of the amazing support you have given us.  I’m so honored that so many of you talented people have given so much in the last couple weeks :).  You all truly are amazing.

The Scapegoat is now 31% funded which is just so brilliant!  😀  We are more than half way to 50%!  =)

I know that we can make our goal.  I really couldn’t do this without you all, and thanks to you fantastically generous friends, we will succeed.

I hope you all might tell your friends about our project as well.  I know I’ve said this before, but really even just $5 goes a long ways.  If you and four of your friends give $5, well that right there is $25 :).  [Yay for my first grade math skills coming to a good use ;)].  But in all seriousness, it really does add up and is most appreciated :).

I am quite aware that money is tight right now for many, and that there are many issues in the world that could also use our help, which is why I’m not asking you to pledge hundreds (unless you want to of course) ;), but a dollar or two from many of you great people really will be how we can reach our goal.  🙂

I am very excited to announce, that I spoke with my fantastic Director of Photographer the other day, and we are going to go ahead with this film regardless of if we make our goal or not.  Though we’d prefer to have a little bit of a budget to make the film a better viewing pleasure for you all :).  If you or anyone you know would like to get on board and become a part of this project, please do spread the word to your friends :).

A funding update for The Scapegoat

Yes, I’ve made another video ;).  I really cannot thank you all enough.  You all are so fantastic!  I actually made the video before I got another backer, but our film is now at $1825! 😀  I’m so excited and thankful.

You really are giving me the best gift ever.  Even the smallest contributions help the film.  If you decide to give up one coffee just one time, you have helped make a filmmaker’s dream come true.

I know it seems like a lot, which it is, but in the terms of films, it’s really not very much at all.

How I Got To The Party (And became a filmmaker)

I’m generally not one to talk a lot about myself.  I enjoy hearing other’s stories so much more.  And sometimes I feel bad if I monopolize a conversation ;).  But, since I am asking you all to put your faith in me, it’s probably a good idea you all hear how I became a filmmaker.

Honestly, my love for movies started at a very young age.  Whether it was watching Indiana Jones and Star Wars during lunches or practically begging my mom to take me to the movie theater, I always had an almost obsession for all things film.  I even remember one time when I was younger, my mom rented Casablanca and was watching it one night.  I so badly wanted to see it too, but she said I had to go to bed.  Not that I did, of course.  No, instead I snuck back out of my room and hid around the corner and just listened to those beautiful lines said by Humphrey Bogart.

Though as much as I loved movies, I didn’t always know I wanted to be a filmmaker.

In fact, I think the first thing I wanted to be was an archaeologist (thanks Indiana Jones), and then later I wanted to be an astronaut (thanks Apollo 13).  Though me as an astronaut would have been awful.  I’m not so excelled at math ;).

As I got a bit older, I decided to give my ballet dancing a professional go.  Yes, I was one of those intense dancers you may know of… though maybe not as crazy as Natalie Portman in Black Swan.

I danced for many years.  But soon I was to find myself going in another direction once I went to Philadelphia to study with the Pennsylvania Ballet.

It was in Philadelphia that I fell in love with another art form.  Yes, me and Will Smith both caught it.  No, not rapping luckily, but I did catch the acting bug.

So back to Los Angeles I went.  I was going to study acting.  Land an agent.  And maybe be the next … Audrey Hepburn?  Not that I could ever compare to her though.

Needless to say this did not happen.

And I also soon found myself running a bit low on cash.  So a day job I would need.

I began to take jobs on film sets as an extra and stand-in (yes just like that awesome Ricky Gervais show).  Honestly I could probably write a novel on all the experiences I had on all the various film sets.

Though it was here that I discovered my true love.  Creating stories in cinematic form.

I really did love it.  I loved just being on set.  The energy there really is fantastic.  It really is my favorite place to be.

I realized I was not so skilled in the acting department (no trust me on this), and I soon realized what I really had known all my life.  What is my true passion in life?  The movies.  It wasn’t the acting.  It was the people who created this world on film.  The directors.  I wanted to tell stories.

It really was what I was always aiming for.  I have been writing since I was about nine or ten, and I’ve never stopped.  I love writing.  It’s been my escape in my life.

When I was sixteen I began writing screenplays (not good ones mind you though).  And fast forward to over ten years later (I’m giving away my age here haha), and I am still writing screenplays (much better ones now) ;).

So yes.  I am to be a filmmaker.  In 2007, I managed to get to film school.  I embarked over to one of my favorite cities in the world and traveled to London, England.  And I’m so glad I did.  I met some of the most talented people while there who I hope to work with for many years to come.

After school, I continued to try and advance my film career.  I made a few shorts, and in 2010 I made my first feature-length film… which is actually on here (though I’ll warn you, it’s ultra no-budget).

Making movies and telling stories is my absolute favorite thing in this whole world.  There is nothing else I would rather do… honestly there’s nothing else I really could do.    It may have taken me a little longer than others to get here, but I’m finally here.  And looking back, it really is what I’ve always wanted to do.

And there you have it my awesome friends.  That is how I got to the party.
